After having so much fun turning myself into a cartoon yesterday I jumped straight back into the Photoshop tutorials today and saw the cover image to make this cool looking Galaxy Swirly thing and decided I just HAD to learn how to make, even after I saw the instructions....(more about that below). You can find the tutorial here.
The tutorial has literally 10 lines of instruction. Some of which are only two or three words. As long as have a basic knowledge of Photoshop and a little patience to test things out you should be fine though.
The first line of the tutorial reads "FILTER>RENDER>CLOUDS" and this one took me a while to figure out. The first time I did it I ended up with a purple square. Thinking I must need a picture of clouds first I then used a picture which turned into a grey mess. I messed about and realised that I need to set my colours to black and white to make the same effect that is pictured in the tutorial. After that it was pretty straight forward, however following the tutorial word for word ended up something like this (not exactly this because I didn't like it so I forgot to save it and had to remake it to show you).
As you can see this looks absolutely nothing like the image above and I couldn't figure out why, I messed with things a bit trying to make the swirl. trying to mess with the Shear points and while a made some interesting patterns I couldn't figure it out. And then I noticed in the Distort menu a choice for twirl and Bam! Now I know. Good thing I'm okay with messing around, I really think it is the best way to learn! Here are the other five I made and liked so decided to keep.
Once you get the hang of it they are so easy to make! Literally only takes minutes and I even taught my partner how! Now to find a use for them....
Let me know in the comments below which one is your favourite!
Bye for Now!
