Mid way through 2015 I finally decided to take action on my longly desired dream to become a more creative person. My whole life I have been surrounded by creative people. People who could draw, people who could write, people who can create! But I had always felt that I could never be as creative as those people. I could never draw beyond simple flowers and tiny stick alien men! The problem? Perfectionism! I suffer from perfectionist tendencies. Not the kind that means everything I do has to be perfect but the kind where I won't try anything because I know that it won't be perfect. And to fix that I knew all I had to do was commit to practice, because practice makes perfect.
So what did I do? I bought 50 'How to Draw' (or similar) books and created this website. And then what did I do? Nothing... The 50 books just sat there collecting dust, inciting fear and guilt every time I saw them. The website didn't make it past the creation in my web editor. Of course every so often I would log in, stare at my blank unpublished website and then log off... One again I let myself fall prey to the vicious perfectionism, knowing it wouldn't be perfect. It's a bit sad really especially seems I drew inspiration for the name of the website knowing what had held me back and knowing that I needed to know it didn't have to be perfect!
A New Year A New ... Plan?
So 2016 hit and started working on a goal setting workbook that I purchased last year and part of it was about letting go of 2015 and sorting out all the things I wasn't happy about and needed to release in order to move on this year. For 2015 I kind of feel like I just 'survived' through it. I had a lot of ideas but like this website I did absolutely nothing about them.
I want this year to be different. I am a little weary about what I say. I know a lot of people make resolutions at the start of the new year which often don't last beyond the first month. And I know that I am especially bad at committing to things and seeing them through. However, currently I feel very motivated to change so I'm going to try and stick with. I have always thought it's better to try and fail then to never try at all so here we go....
