Today I found a tutorial on how to turn yourself into a cartoon using Photoshop or illustrator. It was surprisingly very simple with only four steps however without knowledge of the pen tool which I gained in the last Photoshop tutorial I completed I would not have been able to do this. You can find the tutorial here.
Let's check out a few pictures.
After completing the four steps this is what I produced. I didn't want to put the gradients in the hair like the tutorial did as I don't think they liked nice, instead I just used two different tones of brown. There was no real guide on how to trace the features of your face it just said do it so this is how it ended up. My nose looks funny but I tried other things that just looked worse so decided to leave it like this. The example image also has the person with their mouth shut so I kind of had to try and draw in my teeth and had no idea how to fill them with colour but I don't think it turned out too badly even if two of my teeth ended up disappearing into the dark...
Not wanting to leave it like this I decided to add some highlights and shadows.
Although not part of the tutorial, I think adding the highlights and shadows was a good idea. I really didn't like how the hair was all just one solid lump basically and I think the highlights made it look a lot realer. I probably could have added some highlights and shadows to the lips. I probably should have also tried to add in eye lashes!
I wanted the face/body to stand out a bit more from the background so I added a drop shadow. It changed things a bit but didn't really make the body pop out. I'm not sure if I like it.
