Before I take the plunge and start sharing with you my spiritual beliefs, it would be wise to take a moment (or in this case a blog post) to first explain what is spirituality and what it means to me. I've had some trouble in the past trying to explain what 'spirituality' is, it seems people want a |
specific set of rules and a specific set of beliefs like many religions have. Sorry but we don't play that way. Let's take a look at the definition of spirituality.
Spirituality Defined
Spirituality is kind of an umbrella term for the practices of a group of people who do not subscribe to any religion yet who still believe in a power greater than ourselves (and usually that would include the power of ourselves). I found a great definition on a page called 'What is Spirituality'
Spirituality is a broad concept with room for many perspectives. In general, it includes a sense of connection to something bigger than ourselves, and it typically involves a search for meaning in life. As such, it is a universal human experience—something that touches us all. People may describe a spiritual experience as sacred or transcendent or simply a deep sense of aliveness and interconnectedness.

As you can see from the above definition, spirituality is a broad concept, there is no 'one path'. There is no 'right way' and usually there is no 'wrong way' either. It covers a lot of different ideas and beliefs. Let's discuss what spirituality means to me.
My Personal Meaning of Spirituality
Spirituality to me means trying to be the best person that you can be. It also means following practices that enable you to do that, that make you feel connected to yourself, others &/or God (or the higher power you believe in). Spirituality to me is trying to become the highest version of yourself. For me it also embodies lots of |
different ways of being/living and different belief. Some examples are:
I like to think I'm a pretty 'anything goes' type of person who is very accepting of other people. Let's take a look at some of my spiritual practices.
- treat others the way you want to be treated
- there is no such thing as right or wrong, there just is (but in saying that I prefer to choose 'good' ways of being)
- we are all one
- There is only one planet Earth, treat it well
- We are all entitled to our own views, opinions, beliefs &/or practices and I respect others views/opinions/beliefs/practices - even if they don't resonate with me
- Difference should be celebrated! If we were all the same, the world would be a boring place!

My Spiritual Practices
There are lot of 'practices' that I would class as spiritual practices. In saying that, like most actions, most of these practices are 'belief free' and can be practiced by people of any belief system. Some of these practices have been labeled as 'New Age' and yet are quite old practices that just were 'forgotten' or were not popular until the last 30 years or so. |
- Love
- Meditation
- Prayer
- Reiki
- Chakras
- Auras
- Gratitude!
- Positivity
- Oneness
- Affirmations
- Dreams
- Oracle Cards
- Self-care
- Journaling
Hmm... I think that's about it. As you can see, a lot of these practices can be used by anybody, no matter their belief system.
Why Am I sharing This With You?
