If you've been following my blog posts you know that one of my goals for this year is to learn how to draw, but while searching for my next Photoshop tutorial I found a way to cheat! (Not that I will stop trying to learn how to draw!). I found a tutorial that to show you how to turn your photos into drawings. You can find the tutorial here.
This tutorial is YouTube video which unfortunately has no spoken instructions but it does have some great, detailed captions. It means a lot of stopping and starting the video which did get slightly annoying for me as the video would often randomly not allow me to pause it and so I would have to refresh my page and the video would start from the beginning again and I would have to find my place. But aside from that, the instructions where very easy to follow. The tutorial has one 'optional' step at the end that gives the image a bit more detail. I believe it is optional because Photoshop removed the function in later versions - my version does not have it. I still think the pictures turned out okay without it though, here's what I made.
I can't decide whether or not it looks drawn. I feel it might be a bit too bright. What do you think? I wanted to know what it would look like if it wasn't just the face so I found another photo and completed the process again.
Despite fiddling with all the things (the blur and the levels) I couldn't remove the solid patches from Rob's jacket. Despite his clothes though I think the rest of the picture looks okay. My dress looks fine and our faces are fine, making me think that dark coloured clothes do not go through this process too well.
What do you think? Do the pictures look drawn? Let me know in the comments below.
